Who we are

Dabners Pet Shop ("we", "us", "our") runs the pet shop at 26 Surrey Street, Croydon CR0 1RG. We are the data controller for the personal information described in this notice.

You can contact us about privacy at contact@dabnerscroydon.co.uk or on 020 8686 1977.

The information we collect

  • Loyalty club details: your name, email address, phone number, postal address, date of birth (if you give it) and your marketing preferences.
  • Pet details: your pet's name, type, breed, date of birth, sex, neutered status, favourite food, allergies, dietary requirements and any notes you add.
  • Enquiries: the name, contact details and message you send us through our contact form.
  • Website usage: anonymous or pseudonymous analytics data about how our site is used, collected only where you have accepted analytics cookies.

Why we use it and our lawful bases

  • To create and manage your Dabners loyalty account and administer the loyalty scheme, including maintaining information about you and your pets — our legitimate interests in running the scheme you asked to join, and performance of our agreement with you.
  • To give you advice and recommendations suited to your pets — our legitimate interests in serving customers well.
  • To send you marketing emails or texts — your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • To answer enquiries you send us — our legitimate interests in responding to customers.
  • To meet legal and accounting obligations — compliance with a legal obligation.

Who we share it with

We share personal information with service providers who help us run the loyalty scheme and our website, including our EPOS and till provider, our database and hosting providers, and our email delivery provider. These providers act on our instructions under written contracts and may only use the information to provide their service to us.

We also share information where we are required to by law, or with professional advisers where necessary. We do not sell your personal information.

International transfers

Some of our providers store or process data outside the UK. Where that happens, we rely on UK adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement / Addendum so that your information keeps an equivalent level of protection.

How long we keep it

  • Loyalty account and pet records: while your account is active, and for up to 24 months after your last purchase or contact, after which we delete or anonymise them.
  • Enquiry messages: up to 24 months from your last contact with us.
  • Marketing consent records: for as long as we rely on your consent, plus a short period afterwards to evidence your choice.
  • Records we must keep for tax and accounting: 6 years.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • be informed about how we use your information;
  • ask for a copy of the information we hold about you;
  • have inaccurate information corrected;
  • ask us to delete your information ("right to erasure");
  • ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to our use of it;
  • ask us to transfer your information to another organisation (portability);
  • withdraw consent at any time, including for marketing emails and texts;
  • not be subject to solely automated decisions with legal or similar significant effects — we do not make such decisions.

To exercise any of these rights, email contact@dabnerscroydon.co.uk or speak to us in store. We will respond within one month. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any message, or reply STOP to a text.

Cookies and analytics

We use cookies that are necessary for the website to work, and — with your consent — analytics cookies (Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager) that help us understand how the site is used. You can change or withdraw your cookie choices at any time in your browser settings.

Children

Our loyalty scheme is for customers aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect information about children without parental involvement; if you believe we hold such information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Keeping your information safe

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including access controls, encryption in transit and limiting who in the shop can view customer records.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
